Montserrat Legislative Assembly

Youth Parliament of Montserrat

A platform for young Montserratians aged 15-29 to engage in civic life, build real leadership skills, and make their voices heard.

Giving young people a seat at the table

In November 2025, 17-year-old Alana Kassie stood in the House of Commons Chamber and spoke on behalf of Montserrat and the UK Overseas Territories at the annual UK Youth Parliament sitting — the youngest person in Montserrat’s history to have previously served as Leader of the Opposition in the National Youth Parliament.

Alongside more than 300 Members of Youth Parliament from across the United Kingdom, British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies, Alana delivered a two-minute speech calling for greater access to digital learning, simplified student funding, and shared apprenticeship schemes for young people in the Territories.

“Education is our bridge to the world — the path that connects small islands to global opportunity, innovation and hope.”
— Alana Kassie, UK Youth Parliament, November 2025
