The Honourable Speaker to Attend Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in South Africa
The Legislature Department of Montserrat is pleased to announce that The Honourable Speaker, Mrs. Marjorie Smith, will shortly be participating in the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), scheduled to take place from September 13-19, 2026 in South Africa. The CPC is one of the Commonwealth’s most significant parliamentary gatherings, bringing together Speakers, Members, and Clerks from Parliaments and Legislatures across the Commonwealth and its Overseas Territories.
This year’s Conference will address key themes relating to parliamentary governance, institutional resilience, legislative strengthening, and the evolving role of Parliaments in democratic societies. Delegates will engage in highlevel discussions, workshops, and forums designed to support the continued development of parliamentary practice and interparliamentary cooperation.
The Honourable Speaker’s participation underscores Montserrat’s commitment to upholding strong parliamentary standards, deepening Commonwealth partnerships, and ensuring that the Legislative Assembly remains aligned with contemporary best practice. Attendance at the CPC also provides valuable opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and engagement with counterparts from across the Commonwealth.
The Legislature Department looks forward to the insights and strengthened networks that will result from Montserrat’s participation in this important Commonwealth forum.
