The Speaker’s Chair is a radio programme produced by the Honourable Speaker of the Montserrat Legislative Assembly. Introduced in 2015 by then Speaker of the Montserrat Legislative Assembly, Ms Shirley Osborne, it is a continuing channel of communication and a means of disseminating pertinent information. The Office of the Speaker recognises that many persons do not understand the workings of Parliament and so the aim is to educate the public on parliamentary matters, issues and procedures.
The Speaker’s Chair is just one of the means by which the Office of the Legislative Assembly connects with the public. The official Facebook Page of the Montserrat Legislative Assembly and its Website are other ways in which the Office communicates with the public. Based on available resources, other channels of communication will be added, as a means of conveying the information to as wide an audience as possible.
This forum has been used to cover many topics including the role of the Speaker, Role of the Opposition, Separation of powers and the Budget. Through this means, the public was able to benefit from the knowledge and experience of the Speaker from Trinidad and Tobago, as well as, the Speaker from St Lucia.
The program airs twice per month on the Government’s Radio Station. Listeners can tune in at 8:00p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month when the program is being aired, to hear the latest topics being shared with the public.
